Destination: Uracher Wasserfall
If you follow the murmuring Brühlbach stream in the Maisental valley to the end of the valley, you will reach one of the most beautiful natural spectacles in the Swabian Alb: the Urach waterfall. Here, the water plunges 37 metres over a tufa stone edge into the valley.
Description
How much water the waterfall has when you visit it depends on the amount of precipitation over the past few days or the snow melt. It can be between 70 and 420 litres per second. The source of the waterfall is a karst spring that rises a few hundred metres from the waterfall.
What is particularly beautiful about the Urach waterfall is that you can look at it from different perspectives. From below, you can see how the waterfall first plunges 37 metres into the depths and then continues to cascade down into the valley. If you walk up the steep steps on the side of the fall, you will always get new impressions of this natural spectacle. At the top of the high meadow, you can finally see the water falling over the tufa edge from a bridge above the waterfall.
Easy way to the waterfall
The Urach waterfall is easy to reach from the P23 hikers' car park. The level path leads along the Brühlbach stream for about 2 km and is also easy to walk with an all-terrain pushchair. At the edge of the waterfall, steep steps lead up to the high meadow. This way you can also look at the waterfall from above. On the high meadow is the waterfall hut, where you can stop from the beginning of March to the end of November. Or you can bring your own barbecue and use the existing barbecue area.

A big request:
A special phenomenon can be observed at the Urach waterfall: In the area of the waterfall, lime precipitation from the lime-saturated spring waters occurs and thus leads to the formation of sinter coatings on moss cushions. New layers are formed all the time, and over thousands of years, metre-thick deposits can develop in this way. You can literally watch the porous rock limestone tuff (Quelltuff) grow. Help to protect this natural wonder of the Swabian Alb: Please avoid entering the area of the waterfall. The filigree structures are very vulnerable, when stepped on they are destroyed and have to regenerate over a very long time.
